All putts break away from Bergen Mountain
U.S. Opens are played at fantastic golf courses with slippery greens. In 1996, when Colorado native Steve Jones won the Open on the very difficult greens at Oakwood Hills, MI, he was asked how he was able to master the “terrible terrain”?  He responded that he had grown up playing at a place called Hiwan.  Press Maxwell created the famous greens at Augusta, home of the Masters, and also the greens at our Hiwan Golf Club, so it’s no wonder that putting at Hiwan takes a skilled set of hands.

This year, on July 19, 2021, you can try your putter on the Press Maxwell greens at Hiwan and make a contribution to some terrific causes.  The Mountain Foothills Rotary Club and Evergreen Parks & Recreation District (EPRD) are combining their efforts to put on the annual Andy Smith Sr. INSPIRE Golf Tournament at Hiwan which benefits EPRD's INSPIRE program and other local charities.

This year the day will begin early with a 7:30 shotgun to avoid the Evergreen afternoon showers. Foursomes will utilize a scramble format so any skill level can make a contribution to the team. Even with four putters, birdies will have to be well earned. Players will each receive a goodie bag, closest to the pin, putting contest and shootout opportunities, a chance to win a golf trip of a lifetime, and the famous 19th hole with a nice lunch and activities.
